Yuan Museum proudly announces its latest exhibition, “37 x 33 cm - The Fourth: A Group Show of Portraiture,” which opened on February 8, 2025, and will run through March 8, 2025. This exhibition is co-curated by Yuan Museum and Image Chaser, with Nikolaus Ellrodt serving as the curator. Image Chaser previously organized three group portrait exhibitions in 2019, 2021, and 2022. After a three-year hiatus, the fourth edition brings together 51 artists.
Each artist was invited to create a unique “37 x 33 cm” portrait, using their distinctive artistic languages to explore the diversity and complexity of human existence. The unconventional size of 37 x 33 cm meant that the artists had to create new works specifically for this exhibition, offering the audience a chance to experience fresh, never-before-seen art, thus adding an element of excitement.
Artists were free to choose whom or what to depict and select their preferred medium. The exhibition features artists at various stages of their careers, from emerging Chinese and international talent to established and self-taught creators. The gender balance and representation across different career stages enrich the diversity of the works, allowing the audience to experience a wide range of artistic perspectives and innovations.
