My art emerges from a sensibility, from a place where beauty is defined by the color and it focuses on the human condition. In a society where painting is an obsolete way of producing images, the work with the medium oil and pencil on square canvas digresses from the traditional approach and style of figurative painting. I almost exclusively use photographic source material and images found in the media. It is a way to recognize that we live in a world flooded by images, which are altering our way of seeing. The transformation of the body in the illusion of exposed flesh, tries to play with pictorial conventions. I almost focus on bodies, figures and likenesses. The visual information today has destroyed our ability to distinguish reality from fiction. So the painting has its own reality. The use of the photograph takes on an unexpected gravity when translated to the canvas. This is not only a reaction to the achievements of a generation but also a desire to blur the line between reality and fiction creating sometimes contradictory images, in order to response to the cultural landscape of the times.
